Three things to know

This week global payments blockchain infrastructure made a giant leap toward becoming a reality, the first security issued via blockchain nears, and State Street plans to use blockchain to track capital.                                                                

A blockchain payments infrastructure moves closer to reality as Ripple organizes a group of global banks.  This initial group of six founding members will work together to develop the rules for global blockchain payments. The mission includes the usual goals to reduce settlement times and lower costs. However, they are also creating the new methods of global payments. The question is, how long will it take for the rules to be developed and agreed upon?

Moving from payments to equities issuance, Keystone Capital Corp is running a corporate bond offering for Overstock.com. What makes it unique is the offering is being done through a trading system called t0, of which Overstock is the parent company. This is an entirely digital corporate bond that will be traded on through blockchain and is the first of its kind.

Staying in capital markets, we turn to State Street, where the company has partnered with Peer Nova to develop a blockchain system that will monitor the flow of funds.  The goal of the program is to “track the lineage of capital with greater certainty”. To achieve that end, the companies have combined the big data platform of Peer Nova with the blockchain capabilities of State Street.  The trial is scheduled to be completed in October, then the pilot phase will be

Each week, blockchain moves closer to being applied to real-world, live situations.  n months from now, it may seem silly to discuss new applications and uses for blockchain.  Blockchain will be so common that it new efforts are the norm.
